Brightwater Green Burial COVID-19 Precautionary guidelines

27 March 2020

As we are all aware there is a growing concern over the rapidly spreading virus COVID-19

THE BURIAL GROUND IS NOW ONLY OPEN FOR BURIALS AND CLOSED TO ALL OTHER VISITORS. Please could we ask families and visitors to respect this advice which has been issued by H.M GOVERNMENT. We appreciate that families may find this distressing so please feel free to call or email the office at any time if you would like further advice.

We wish to reassure people that we will continue to lay to rest their loved ones with the same care and dignity as always and are available at all times to talk to bereaved families by phone or can be contacted by email.

We do however need to take all necessary precautions to prevent the risk of possible spread of the virus to families, their friends, the funeral directors and our own staff attending a burial.

When services/burials take place

We recommend that gatherings should be as small as possible and held at the graveside. We recommend only very immediate family attend (a maximum of 5-10 people)

Larger memorial services may be arranged in the Hay Barn or Cathedral Garden at a later date when it is advised safe to do this.

Burial of Ashes – we are able to offer a memorial service at a later date in either the Hay Barn or Cathedral Garden followed by the burial of the ashes.

Our toilet facilities are closed until further notice.

Additional precautions

We recommend people self-distance themselves from others. There should be no contact between staff and attendees including handshaking and hugging.

We will clean and sanitise our premises, furniture and facilities regularly to reduce any risk of infection.

Paperwork will be transferred electronically wherever possible and other documentation should remain unopened for 24 hours to minimise potential infection.

We will continue to meet families at their request by appointment following self-distancing precautions. We are available to contact by phone or email at all times.

We are unable to offer catering in the Hay Barn for the next 2/3 months as advised by Public Health England guidelines.

Please do not attend a burial if you feel unwell with any of the COVID-19 virus symptoms.

These measures are subject to change at any time in line with Public Health and Government guidelines.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.           Landline: 01673 878820   Mobile: 07831 263177

The burial meadow is located adjacent to an existing area of old meadow and woodland which already has a rich natural biodiversity, near the village of Owmby – 10 miles north of Lincoln. The surrounding land has been farmed by the same family for over 130 years. The family has a keen interest in landscape conservation and also run Brightwater Gardens in nearby Saxby.

The concept is to create a haven of peace and beauty where the woodland and meadow will be a lasting feature in the landscape. The site is being planted with glades of native trees in open meadow which  is becoming a rich habitat for birds and other wildlife. It is an attractive landscape which is well balanced with nature and enhances the surrounding countryside.

Burials take place in areas of open managed meadow interspersed with glades of native trees where we encourage the planting of  trees in memory of loved ones.  All graves are clearly recorded to enable easy recognition in the future.
